College Football Overview

American Football Basics

  • In Rival Stars College Football, games consist of 4 quarters lasting 5 minutes each.
  • At the start of the game, Team A kicks the ball to Team B.
  • Team B have to work their way towards the other end of the field.
  • At the start of the second half, Team B gets to kickoff.
  • If the ball lands in the end zone, it is played from the 25 yard line.

In Rival Stars College Football, each side has both an offensive and defensive team.

  • 5 key players are on the field at different times.
  • The goal of the offensive team is to gain 10 yards with the ball within 4 downs (attempts). If the offensive team make 10 or more yards within 4 downs, the count resets, and they can continue to make their way up the field.
  • The goal of the defensive team is to try and stop the opposing team from making 10 yards. If the defensive team succeeds, the ball is turned over.
  • To make yards, the ball can either be carried by a running player, or thrown to a player further down the field.
  • If the offensive team carry or catch the ball over the line at the end of the field (an area known as the end zone), their side scores a touchdown. This gives them the opportunity to try and get a further 1 or 2 point conversion.

At the end of the game, the side with the most points wins.

Scoring in Football

  1. When a team scores a touchdown, they get 6 points.
  2. The scoring team gets a single attempt to try and win some more points.
  3. Option 1: Kick the ball through the posts for 1 point (known as a PAT)
  4. Option 2: Carry or pass the ball into the end zone from the 2 yard line for 2 points
  5. At any point in the game, a team in possession of the ball can try to kick a field goal. If they succeed, they will get 3 points.

Top Tips

  1. Choose risky plays carefully, as the opposing team may push you back and you may lose some yards.
  2. It may be tempting to go for a lot of yards, but remember – you only have to make 10 yards to avoid a turnover!
  3. If you’re within the opposing team’s half on 4th down, consider going for a field goal.
  4. If you want to recharge a favorite play, consider doing a couple of short, low risk plays.
  5. When on defense, look at how many yards the opposition needs.
  6. Make sure to choose plays that will complement the strengths of your players.

Rise to the challenge, with Rival Stars College Football!
